No. 11 Bears Battle Presbyterian In Home Opener On Saturday

MACON – The 11th-ranked Mercer Bears will officially lift the lid on their 52nd season of intercollegiate football on Saturday when the Bears take on Pioneer Football League foe Presbyterian on Teacher Appreciation Night in Macon.

Saturday's game will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ with Frank Malloy and Phil Cox handling the duties in the booth. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Five Star Stadium. Rick Cameron and the rest of the Mercer Sports Network will call all of the action as well, and fans can listen to that broadcast on The Creek 100.9 FM, or by visiting Sportsmic. A live statistics link is also being provided by the MU athletics department.

MERCER, JACOBS IN SEASON OPENERS
The Bears are 9-3 in season lid-lifters in the modern day era (2013-present) of the program, and will ride a four-game win streak in such contests into Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday. Mike Jacobs-coached squads are 8-1 in season openers dating back to the skipper's first season at Notre Dame (Ohio) in 2016. Jacobs' lone loss over that span was a 54-49 setback at then-No. 7 Shepherd in 2017.

BEARS, PRESBYTERIAN SERIES
Saturday's matchup will mark the 17th meeting between the Bears and Presbyterian in a series that dates all the way back to the 1927 season, but it is just the third meeting between the two squads since the 1941 campaign. The Orange & Black leads the all-time series, 11-5, and have won each of the last three meetings.

LET'S GET IT STARTED...AGAIN
Saturday's game will mark the official 2025 debut for the Bears who had their second-half comeback effort against No. 7 UC Davis stopped with a nearly 2-hour lightning delay at the FCS Kickoff in Montgomery, Ala., that eventually led to the game being declared a "no contest" and all statistics voided. MU trailed 23-3 early in the third quarter of that outing, but scored 14-straight points before the game was halted with 7:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. MU was in possession of the ball with a 1st-and-10 situation at the 48-yard line.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Bears will tote FCS's fourth-longest active home win streak into tonight. Mercer has captured each of its last 10 contests in front of its home fans, including a perfect 8-0 mark in Five Star Stadium last season. The Bears own an impressive 50-20 (.714) all-time record at Five Star Stadium and a 129-64-4 (.664) mark in all games played in Macon dating back to 1892.

NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS
