MACON – After putting up a memorable senior season in 2025, Mercer shortstop Bradley Frye inked a free agent deal the San Diego Padres on Monday following the MLB Draft. Â
Â
One of the top all-around shortstops in the country, Frye was an All-Southern Conference First Team and SoCon Defensive Player of the Year selection after enjoying a breakout 2025 campaign. The senior shortstop posted a career-best .337 batting average and led the SoCon with 85 hits. Frye has also put up career-bests in doubles (18), home runs (12), RBI (54), slugging percentage (.552) and stolen bases (16) while hitting in the middle of the Mercer lineup. In his final series at OrthoGeorgia Park, Frye put an exclamation point on a fantastic regular season with his first career walk-off, a single to defeat Samford in the series opener.Â
Â
An anchor in the middle of the infield over the last three years, Frye also earned the SoCon's Golden Glove Award as the league's top defensive player in 2025. Frye's elite glove bolstered a Mercer defense that ranked third in the country in defensive runs saved this past season, trailing only North Carolina and Georgia Tech. A two-time SoCon Player of the Week honoree this season, Frye was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List in April as one of the top 100 shortstops in the country.Â
Â
Since arriving in Macon ahead of the 2023 campaign, Frye played in 173 games with 171 starts and reached the 200 career-hit milestone in the 2025 SoCon Tournament. A career .297 hitter in the Orange & Black, Frye was a SoCon All-Tournament Team pick in 2024 and a preseason all-conference selection prior to the 2025 campaign.Â
