
Bears Open 2025 Campaign, Host Heart Of Georgia Classic

MACON – Mercer will open its 40th season of intercollegiate softball this weekend when the Bears suit up to host the annual Heart of Georgia Classic at Sikes Field. The 3-day event will feature teams from Austin Peay, Florida A&M and Saint Joseph's in addition to the Orange & Black.

Admission prices are $10 for one-day admission, $15 for any two days and $20 for a tournament pass. Children aged 12 years and younger, as well as Mercer students that present a valid Bears Card, will be admitted free. Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow all of the action in progress via live statistics links provided by the MU athletics department.

Florida A&M and Austin Peay will play the first of three games on Friday at 1:30 p.m., while the Bears are set to open up their portion of round-robin tournament play at approximately 6:30 p.m. against the Governors. Florida A&M and Saint Joseph's will kick off Day 2 action on Saturday at 11 a.m., while Mercer will follow with games against the Rattlers (1:30 p.m.) and Austin Peay (4 p.m.).

Sunday's schedule includes two games – an 11 a.m. matchup between Saint Joseph's and Mercer, as well as a 1:30 p.m. contest pitting Austin Peay against Florida A&M.

Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year (D1 Softball) Tori Hedgecock headlines a group of seven returning position starters for the Bears that also includes All-Southern Conference shortstop Emma Dorval who will make the transition to second base for the 2025 campaign. Right-hander Grace Taylor, a Preseason All-SoCon selection by the league's head coaches, is among six returning pitchers for the Bears.
