MACON – Athletics department officials at Mercer University announced Saturday afternoon that Lindsay Fico has resigned as softball head coach to accept the same position at Florida Gulf Coast.
Â
"Lindsay's leadership guided the team through the most successful season in program history, marked by the program's first conference championship and first-ever NCAA postseason appearance that was accentuated with a pair of wins," said Deputy Athletics Director Brian Gerrity. "We are incredibly grateful for what she has given to Mercer and wish her, Damon and DC all the best in this exciting new chapter."
Â
Fico, a native of Madison, Fla., who played her collegiate career for the Florida Gators, led the Bears on a 19-game improvement across her four seasons (2022-25) in Macon, including a 40-win season this spring that was highlighted by an eight-game run through the SoCon Tournament and the program's first-ever postseason appearance. Amid her run to 99 career wins as skipper of the Orange & Black, the program raked in a dozen all-conference accolades, while also boasting an all-region selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Â
"I will forever cherish the memories that I made as the leader of Mercer softball, and am equally as grateful to athletics director Jim Cole for believing in me to build something special here," Fico said. "I am excited for this new opportunity, but will continue to keep an eye on the Mercer program as it continues to accomplish great things."
Â
A national search for the program's new leader will begin immediately.
