Harris, Zock Lauded As Mercer Student-Athletes Of The Week

MACON – Record-worthy performances on both the cross country course and the gridiron led to additional recognition on Wednesday afternoon when senior distance phenom Nikki Harris and sophomore defensive end Andrew Zock were named the Mercer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 14.

Harris, a native of Ocala, Fla., registered a personal-best time of 17:14.4 in the women's 5K race to lead the Bears to an 8^th-place finish in the talent-laden Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday. The mark, which ranks as the third-fastest 5K mark in program history, helped Harris best 79 other runners at the event on the way to 21^st place.

A product of Citra, Fla, Zock posted a team-best eight tackles, including a school-record-matching 4-1/2 stops behind the line, as the Orange & Black rallied back to top Wofford in its Southern Conference opener at Five Star Stadium. The preseason all-American also turned in a pair of quarterback hurries to officially cement his name as the all-time leader in that category, and all but ended the game with a strip sack late in the fourth quarter.
