Bears Fall To Saint Joseph’s In Weekend Finale

MACON – Saint Joseph's scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings to eventually build a 4-0 lead, and then held off a late rally by Mercer on the way to a 4-2 victory over the Bears in the Heart of Georgia Classic finale for both sides on Sunday afternoon at Sikes Field.

The Bears (2-2) finished the first of two home tournaments with a pair of wins as the Orange & Black toughed out a 4-2 win over Florida A&M on Saturday before getting a go-ahead 6^th-inning grand slam from Tori Hedgecock to upend Austin Peay, 9-7. Saint Joseph's (4-1) closed out the weekend with a tournament-best four triumphs.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 2	Katheryn Rearley retired each of the first two batters she faced in the frame, but Saint Joseph's got a gift on the latter when Riley York reached via passed ball on a swinging strike three. Sierra Fretz accounted for the first of four-straight runs by the visitors minutes later when she laced a 2-strike offering from Rearley over the wall in left field.
BOT 6	The Bears got a pair of runs back in the sixth, utilizing a double steal from Laura Vigna and Isabel Fernandez – her second of the inning – to get on the board. KiKi Daniels added another run a few pitches later with her first collegiate home run, a solo shot to right field.
