Niemann Leads Women's Cross Country at NCAA South Regional Race
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mercer University junior Kacie Niemann ran the second-fastest six kilometer time in school history to pace the women’s cross country team at the NCAA South Regionals hosted by Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running. As a team, the Bears were 21st out of the 27 entered teams.
Niemann’s time of 22:42.70 was good for 84th overall out of the 191 entered runners and was second only to her own school-record time of 22:13.95 for the 6K (set at last year’s NCAA South Regional).
Sophomore Lena Hamvas was Mercer’s second finisher and was 101st, overall, in a clocking of 23:01 .80. Sophomore Sammy Woller and senior Christna Kivi finished back-to-back in 136th and 137th place, respectively. Woller had a time of 23:47.00, while Kivi closed out her MU career with an effort of 23:48.80.
Freshman Illiana Garcia closed out the Bears’ scoring with a time of 25:39.30, good for 180th place.
