Cross Country Heads to Conference Championships this Saturday
MACON, GA – Mercer's
men's and women's cross country teams will travel to
DeLand, Fla. for the Atlantic Sun Conference championship on
Saturday, Oct. 31. The meet will be held at the Sperling Sports
Complex.
As they have been all year, the women's squad will be led by fantastic freshman, Kacie Niemann. The Crestwood, KY native has posted top 10 finishes in four of five meets this year including a pair of top five showings.
“Kacie has had better finishes as an individual this year than anyone in the cross country program,” said Mercer head coach Ryan Bailey. “She is healthy and peaking at the right time.”
He expects Niemann not to be fazed by the atmosphere of a conference championship meet.
“She is a tough competitor and very determined,” Bailey said. “She was part of a high school championship team in Kentucky. Kacie is well prepared and I think she'll come through.”
Rounding out Bailey's team will be Clara Densmore, Karen Dorris, Kasie Knapper, Christina Kivi, Alesa Webber, Rebecca Moore, Hannah Stark, and Jenna Jackson.
Any Mercer runner that finishes in the top 25 will advance to the South Regional held in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Nov. 14.
