Niemann and Law Gain All-Freshman Honors; XC Conference Meet Wrap-up
MACON, GA -- Kacie Niemann and Jacob Law concluded memorable
freshman seasons with strong showings at last week's Atlantic
Sun Conference championship ensuring them spots on the 2009
All-Freshman team.
Niemann placed 13th overall and was the third frehsman to
finish the women's 5k race. Her effort was also
good enough to land her on Second team all-conference.
Niemann's time of 18:32 broke her personal best by seven seconds
set earlier this season at the University of South Carolina.
Law's 14th place finish also earned him Second team all-conference
honors. He was the fourth freshman to complete the 8k
course. Law's time of 26:50 was his second best 8k of the
season.
Both Niemann and Law qualified for the South Regionals on November
14 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Conference Meet Notes:
*The women's team average was 20:39 for the 3.1 mile course.
*The men's team averaged 27:48 which ranks as the fourth fastest
Mercer conference meet team average on record.
*According to Coach Ryan Bailey, the weather in DeLand, Fla.
was extremely hot and humid, especially for the men's race,
and the men's course was evidently longer than 8k. Even
though the course at Stetson was very flat and should have
yielded fast times, the men's times were roughly one minute
slower than on the hilly Mercer course, site of the 2008
championships."
