Katona Named to Georgia Tech Regency Suites All-Tournament Team
ATLANTA, Ga. – Mercer junior Jennifer Katona garnered all-tournament team honors for the 2011 Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational in an announcement made by the Georgia Tech athletic department Saturday.
Katona was one of eight players recognized for stellar play over the weekend. The Santa Monica, Calif. native earned her spot on the tournament team by posting a team-high 29 kills and 14 total blocks in three matches.
Mercer went 1-2 at the tournament, falling to Samford and Georgia Tech before topping Georgia in a five set thriller on Saturday evening.
After posting six kills and three block assists versus Samford, Katona notched double-figure kill totals against both Georgia Tech and Georgia. Against Georgia Tech and Georgia, Katona recorded .316 and .333 hitting percentages, respectively.
In Mercer’s final match at the event, Katona delivered nine block assists against Georgia, helping the Bears capture a program-first victory over the in-state rival.
Katona transferred to Mercer after spending two seasons playing for the University of Pittsburgh. While with the Panthers, Katona started nine matches and racked up over 100 kills.
