Volleyball Set for Clash with Camels
MACON, Ga. – After a two-week hiatus from Atlantic Sun conference play, the Mercer volleyball team is set to return to league action at Campbell on Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Facing the absence of senior leader Krista Hurley, the Mercer volleyball team saw its five-match win streak snapped at the hands of UNC Asheville Tuesday night. The Bulldogs claimed a 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-13) win at the Justice Center behind a match-high 14 kills by junior Cindi Miller.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Campbell is 9-14 (3-3 A-Sun) after most recently topping Coastal Carolina in five sets on Oct. 19. The Camels return five starters from last year’s team that finished 17-15 (10-10 A-Sun).
Senior Allyson Goldbach is the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week after racking up 21 kills and 23 digs against the Chanticleers on Oct. 19. Goldbach paces the team with 226 kills and ranks second on the roster in digs (229).
The Camels are 3-2 at home this season and aim to knock off the Bears in Buies Creek for the first time since 2004.
Mercer leads the all-time series with Campbell, 13-10. Mercer teams under direction of head coach Noelle Rooke are 6-2 versus Campbell.
MATCH NOTES
Junior Charlotte Harris is just 11 digs away from moving into the program’s top-five in single season dig totals. Harris has tallied 473 digs this season with five matches remaining. Liz Kane ranks fifth in Mercer history with 484 digs in 2005.
As a team, the Bears have had a hitting percentage of .150 or better in 12 matches this season. Mercer is 9-3 when hitting better than .150 and 2-11 when hitting under .150.
