Volleyball Looks to Stay Hot Against UNC Asheville

MACON, Ga. – Winners of four of its last five matches, the Mercer volleyball team looks to keep its hot streak going when the Bears host UNC Asheville in a mid-week non-conference match on Tuesday night at the University Center.  Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

 

Last Time Out

 

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team had four players finish with a .500 hitting percentage or better in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-17) victory over Savannah State at the University Center Tuesday evening.

 

Scouting the Opposition

 

UNC Asheville is 8-6 (2-0 Big South) after besting Coastal Carolina in five sets on Friday evening.

 

The Bulldogs return four starters from last year’s team that finished 25-10 (13-3 Big South). UNC Asheville is led offensively by Cindi Miller, who ranks third in the Big South in kills per set (4.0).

 

UNC Asheville leads the all-time series with Mercer, 11-2.  The last time the teams met, in 2006, the Bears swept the Bulldogs 3-0. 

 

Noelle Rooke is 1-1 leading the Bears against UNC Asheville.

 

Game Notes

 

Libero Charlotte Harris has racked up 278 digs in 58 sets, ranking the junior first among A-Sun players

in digs per set (4.79).

 

Mercer is 3-1 at home after downing Savannah State on Sept. 21.

 

Mercer has out-blocked its opponent in nine of its 17 matches.  When out-blocking the opponent, Mercer is 5-4.

 

Mercer has won two non-conference tournaments, posting 2-1 records at both the Bear Brawl (Sept. 3-4) and the South Carolina State Spikefest (Sept. 17-18).
