Volleyball Senior Day Set for Saturday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team aims to send its senior trio of Libby Hansch, Krista Hurley and Erica Vrvilo out with a win on Saturday as the team hosts Kennesaw State for its senior day match.  Fans are encouraged to wear black, as the match has been deemed a “Black-Out” event. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.

 

LAST TIME OUT

 

MACON, Ga. – Four Mercer players recorded double-digit kills as the Bears topped ETSU 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 25-22) on Nov. 6 at the University Center. Mercer handed ETSU its second-straight loss, marking the first time since the opening two matches of the season that ETSU has lost consecutive matches.  The Lady Bucs are now 23-8 (6-3 A-Sun) while Mercer jumped to 14-16 (6-3 A-Sun).

 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

 

Kennesaw State is 16-10 (8-1 A-Sun) after most recently falling to Georgia 3-0 on Nov. 9 in Athens.  Prior to their match with the Bulldogs, the Owls were winners of eight-straight matches.

 

Kennesaw State has already secured the second seed and a bye in the upcoming conference tournament.

 

Mercer leads the all-time series with Kennesaw State, 4-2.  Last season,  Kennesaw State swept Mercer in two regular season meetings.  Mercer has not defeated its in-state rival since Oct. 14, 2008.

 

MATCH NOTES

 

Depending on the outcome on Saturday’s match, Mercer can be seeded as high as fourth or as low as sixth in the conference tournament.

 

Mercer is 9-2 at the University Center in 2010 and aims to post its first 10-win season at home since 2008.

 

Junior libero Charlotte Harris needs just 16 more digs to surpass Claire Tucker in the Mercer record books for highest dig total in a single season.  Tucker’s record of 600 digs was set in 2008.
