Harris Notches A-Sun Player of the Week Honor
MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior libero Charlotte Harris led the volleyball team to a pair of conference victories over the past week and has been named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office Monday.
The selection marks the Chapel Hill, N.C. native’s first selection as Player of the Week and the first selection for a Mercer volleyball player this season. Harris is only the third libero to be tabbed conference Player of the Week since 2006.
Against Stetson on Oct. 15, Harris amassed 39 digs in four sets, falling just one dig short of the Atlantic Sun record for digs in a four set conference match. Harris’ defensive effort frustrated the Hatter attackers repeatedly and helped the Bears limit the Hatters to a .108 hitting percentage.
One day later at Florida Gulf Coast, Harris tallied a team-high 20 digs, dished out four assists and had a pair of service aces as the Bears completed a season sweep of the Florida-based teams in the conference.
On the weekend, Harris added 59 digs to her conference-leading total and averaged an impressive 6.56 digs per set.
Harris’ honor is the first for a Mercer libero since Claire Tucker was named A-Sun Player of the Week on Nov. 10, 2008.
Harris leads the Bears in search of their fifth-straight win when the team returns to action hosting Florida A&M on Oct. 23. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
