RALEIGH, N.C. – Mercer senior Krista Hurley had 13 kills in two matches, but the Bears fell to both North Carolina State and Georgia Southern on the second day of the North Carolina State tournament. Mercer was first nipped by the Wolfpack, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-15) and then fell to Georgia Southern 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16).
With the losses Mercer falls to 2-10 (0-0 A-Sun).
Against NC State, Hurley smashed seven kills on just 16 swings while contributing three total blocks. Freshmen Carly Iannarino and Bridget Sheerin split time at the setter position, both passing out 10 assists against the Wolfpack.
Against Georgia Southern, Iannarino and Sheerin combined to hand out 25 helpers. Junior Charlotte Harris tallied a match-high 15 digs in the losing effort.
Hurley tallied six kills and a pair of blocks against the Eagles.
Mercer returns to action Sept. 14 at Florida A&M. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
