Bears Upended at Home, 6-1 Kennesaw State

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped their second-straight Atlantic Sun Conference match on Saturday, this time to in-state rival Kennesaw State, 6-1.

The Bears (5-12, 1-5 A-Sun) picked up just one win on the day, coming at the No. 4 singles position as freshman Roxy Bartz defeated Kennesaw State's Therese Lagerkvist, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker.

The win is Bartz second in the last four and her seventh in her freshman campaign, which is also tied for the team-lead this year.

The Bears were swept in the doubles  competition as the Owls cruised to 8-2, 8-3, and 8-2 victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions respectively. It was the fifth time this season that the Bears were swept in all three doubles matches.

The singles portion of the match did not go in the Bears favor as well as Bartz was able to avoid the KSU sweep with her win at No. 4. Outside of the Bartz, the Bears were knocked off in straight-sets in the remaining five singles matches.

Mercer heads to Jacksonville State this Tuesday for its final non-conference matchup of the year. The Bears and Gamecocks get underway at 3:30 p.m.
