Women's Tennis Travels to Clemson Tourney

 

CLEMSON, S.C. – Mercer’s women’s tennis team will wrap up its fall slate of competition when it travels to the Duckworth Fall Classic hosted by Clemson University this weekend. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday, October 28-30 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

 

In all, there will be 10 schools participating in the event. There are seven flights of singles and three flights of doubles scheduled, with each entrant guaranteed at least two matches.

 

In singles play, sophomore Lucie Payrat will play Charleston Southern’s Marija Dzakovic in the White Flight, while senior Jennifer Lada drew Ivon Simic of Tennessee-Martin in the Red Flight.

 

Mercer newcomer Melanie Schumilas – playing in the Green Flight – faces off versus Jessica Garderfjord of Armstrong Atlantic in her opener. Sophomore Amanda Bertani was pitted against Sydney Brown of Georgia Southern in the Black Flight.

 

In doubles action, the Bears’ tandem of Lada and Payrat will square off against Brenau University’s duo of Lyn See Choo and Hannah Thompson in a Silver Flight first round match. In the Bronze Flight opener, it will be MU’s Schumilas and Bertani versus the Armstrong Atlantic pair of Clara Perez and Kathleen Henry.
