Women's Tennis Opens Fall Slate Saturday
STATESBORO, Ga. – Mercer University head women’s tennis coach Warren Woolfolk will get his first look at his 2010-11 squad when it travels to the Springhill Suites Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern University this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 16-17) at the Hanner Tennis Complex. This is the first of two fall events being played by the Bears.
Woolfolk welcomes back four letterwinners from last season, headed by No. 1 singles player junior Jennifer Lada. Also returning for the Bears is senior Amalia Bugge, and juniors Stephanie Cohen and Sarah Hanna.
With Lada – a native of Biarritz, France – already a part of the roster, Woolfolk’s lineup will have a real “French connection” with freshmen Aurelie de Montjou and Lucie Payrat.
The tournament will feature host GSU, Mercer, South Carolina State and Western Carolina.
The tournament is been divided into seven singles flights and three doubles flights. A champion of each flight will be crowned at the end of the tournament. The winner will be determined based on overall tournament record. In the case two player’s records are identical, the champion will be based on the winner of their head-to-head match.
