Mercer Falls at Jacksonville State
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Mercer's women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 non-conference decision at Jacksonville State University on Tuesday afternoon. The loss left the Bears with a 4-14 record overall.
The Gamecocks took two of three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the day. MU did manage a win at No. 1 doubles, where Jennifer Lada and Aurelie de Montjou defeated JSU's Martina Dessbesell and Marani Vivane, 8-2.
The two teams split the six singles matches which, with the doubles point, gave JSU the 4-3 win. Mercer was victorious at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 matches.
At third singles, freshman Lucie Payrat extended her personal win streak to nine matches thanks to her 7-6, 6-3 win over the Gamecocks' Juliana Renesto. Payrat is now a sterling 13-5 on the season, tops on the MU team in victories.
Fellow freshman Aurelie de Montjou won at No. 4 singles over Rafaela Wenzel in a three-set match. De Montjou won the opener, 6-3 and Wenzel the second set, 6-4. In the third set, de Montjou won by a 6-1 score.
Also, winning for the Bears was Sarah Hanna at the No. 6 position. Hanna won a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 victory over JSU's Alexsandra Cmilijic.
