Bears Get Win Over Western Carolina, 5-2
MACON, Ga. – Mercer's women's tennis team scored a 5-2 non-conference win over Western Carolina University at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center. The Bears improved to 4-12 with the victory.
MU started the day off on the right foot, earning the team point for doubles by sweeping all three of the tandem matches. Jennifer Lada and Aurelie de Montjou won at No. 1 doubles, topping Carolina Lainez and Ainhoa Iglesias, 8-6. At No. 2 doubles, it was Mercer's Amalia Bugge and Lucie Payrat defeating the Catamounts' Izabella Glinska and Karen Jiménez, also by an 8-6 score. WCU did not field a No. 3 doubles team.
At singles, the Bears won at the Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6 spots.
At No. 1, Lada was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Western Carolina's Glinska. Freshman Lucie Payrat notched her 11th win of the season in singles in the No. 4 bout, in a three-set match. Payrat lost the opening set to Jiminez, 6-3 and bounced back to take the second set, 6-2. In the third set super-tiebreaker, Payrat won an extended 12-10 decision.
Fellow freshjman Amanda Bertani defeated the Catamounts Katie Barry, 6-1, 6-2 and Sarah Hanna won by default at No. 6 singles.
