Bears Defeated by UNC Wilmington, 7-0
ATLANTA, Ga. – The MU women’s tennis team was blanked by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match played at Georgia Tech. The loss dropped the Bears’ record to 2-6 overall on the year.
Playing with just five individuals, Mercer was forced to concede No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles off the bat. The Seahawks earned the team point for doubles by winning both of the other matches, as well. The Bears’ tandem of Jennifer Lada and Aurelie de Montjou was defeated by UNCW’s Olga Blank and Angela Sekely, 8-4, at the No. 1 position. Lucie Payrat and Sarah Hanna fell at No. 2, 8-1.
The Seahawks swept the five contested singles competitions, as well, for the 7-0 win. Payrat was the only MU player not to go down in straight sets. Payrat lost the first set, 6-4 versus Lindsay Leblang at the No. 3 position. The Mercer freshman then rebounded with her own 6-4 score in set two. In the third-set tiebreaker, Leblang won by a 10-7 score.
