Women's Tennis Goes Through Final Paces Before Spring Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mercer University's women's tennis team got out its final kinks heading into the 2011 spring season by participating in the Samford Winter Tournament. The Bears competed versus host Samford and the University of Alabama-Birmingham in the two-day event

This was a good warm up tournament for our Bears," MU head coach Warren Woolfolk said. "We got several matches in against quality opponents."

Freshman Aurelie de Montjou was the only Bear to win a match, dispatching of UAB's Menanteau Mootman in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. While losing her singles match against Samford, de Montjou split sets with Rebecca Kirven, winning 3-6 and then losing 6-0 before dropping the tiebreaker third set, 10-4.

Mercer opens by hosting Jacksonville State on February 7.
