Bears Drop Non-Conference Match, 5-2
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Mercer University's women's tennis squad
lost its final tune-up heading into the Atlantic Sun Conference
championships, dropping a 5-2 decision at
Tennessee-Chattanooga.
The loss left the Bears' record at 7-10 overall, while UTC
improved to 8-11 on the year.
Chattanooga won two of three doubles matches to garner the team
point for pairs play. MU's No. 1 doubles tandem of Amalia
Bugge and Jennifer
Lada defeated UTC's Jenna Nurik and Shaina Singh, 8-6,
for the visitor's lone win in doubles.
Mercer got on the scoreboard twice in singles play, at the Nos. 4
and 6 positions. At No. 4 singles, senior Priscilla
Dias swept past Chattanooga's Beata Knizat, 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 6 play, it was Mercer's Sarah
Hanna splitting the first two sets - 6-2, 2-6 - versus
UTC's Jennifer Taylor. Hanna then won a grueling thrid set, 7-5,
for the final 5-2 team score.
