Scott Kim

Title: Assistant Coach

Scott Kim, a native of Mountain View, California and a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), enters his third season in 2011-2012 as the Bears’ assistant coach under Gary Guyer.

“I am very excited to be back for another season with the Bears,” Kim said.  “We have worked incredibly hard and made remarkable strides over the last two seasons.  We are definitely trending in the right direction.”

Since Kim’s arrival, the women’s golf team has continued to break and set new school records, improve their national ranking and increase the quality of incoming recruiting classes.  In 2010-2011, the Bears experienced their first multiple team and individual win seasons.  Lacey Fears and Aurelie Wiriath’s individual victories helped propel the Bears to team victories at the 2010 Eat-A-Peach and 2011 Coastal Georgia Invitational, respectively.  He will continue to use his skills and experience in golf to develop and the Bears into a top tier program.

Prior to his arrival at Mercer, Scott was responsible for the design, development, and testing of golf clubs as a R&D Engineer at MacGregor Golf.  He was also responsible for the fitting and manufacturing of golf clubs for several PGA and LPGA Tour players including 2-time Open Championship winner, Greg Norman, 2-time Masters champion José María Olazábal, and Aaron Baddeley.  He was also responsible for equipping the 2005, 2006, and 2007, NJCAA National Championship teams at Darton College.

Scott constantly develops players' abilities through competitive practices and situational preparation. His experience with PGA Tour players and cutting edge golf technologies such as the Trackman launch monitor, provides the Bears’ with a unique resource to help lead them to an Atlantic Sun conference championship.

“Our team has a tremendous combination of talent, experience, and depth,” Kim said.  “I really look forward to what this season has in store for us.”

Scott Kim currently resides in Macon and also serves Mercer University as an engineer at the Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC).
