Recently, the Mercer women’s golf team took time off from its regular practice schedule to visit the corn maze at Lane Southern Orchards. Team bonding activities included a picnic lunch, navigating a Corn Maze, dining on peach ice cream, firing a ‘Corn Canon’ and a hay ride.

For the corn maze, the team was divided into three units, each comprised of three players. Each unit was assigned the task of entering the Corn Maze and locating the 17 Cornundrums scattered throughout the Maze. A Cornundrum (named as a take-off on the word conundrum) is a puzzle. Each Cornundrum is posted on a sign in the maze and the clues must be used to determine the appropriate answer.

Each team was given a map of the seven-acre maze, but had to navigate the entire maze to find all 17 Cornundrums. Once a Cornundrum was found they had to answer the Cornundrum correctly. This proved a difficult challenge yet each team was able to find all 17 Cornundrums. Solving the riddle proved to be a little tougher. The team of Kimmy Graff, Lacey Fears and Alicia Poole was the only team to find all 17 Cornundrums and answer them correctly.

Mercer head coach Gary Guyer used the recreational day to give the players time off from a stringent practice schedule.  The Bears have been rigorously preparing for their final competition of the fall, a trip to Hawaii to play in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

The two-day event begins on November 1 and features an elite 11-team field.  Among the competing schools are Hawaii, Brigham Young, Cal State Fullerton, Florida International, Rutgers, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah Valley and Washington.
