Fears Tabbed A-Sun Women’s Golfer of the Week

MACON, GA.—Mercer sophomore Lacey Fears was named the Atlantic Sun Women's Golfer of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office Wednesday. Fears' honor marked the second time she has earned the distinction in a three week period.

In a talented field of 179 golfers at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, Fears booked a three-round total of 223 to finish tied for 10th place on the individual leaderboard.  Her efforts helped Mercer earn a tie for 18th place among the 33-team field.

Fears' performance featured scores of 74, 72, and 77 in the three-day competition and saw her ascend as high as seventh place on the overall leaderboard.

Fears most recent honor adds to an already impressive resume less than halfway through her collegiate career.  Her placement in Kiawah Island marked the fifth top-10 finish in Orange and Black.  Among those top-10 finishes are three individual championships, earned at the 2012 JU Classic and the 2012 and 2011 Eat a Peach Collegiate events.

Overall, Mercer has collected three Women's Golfer of the Week honors this season. Teammate Jessica Arthur was also tabbed the league's most outstanding player on February 15, 2012.

Fears and the Bears return to action on Mar. 10 at the Spider Spring Break Invitational.  The event is scheduled for two days of competition at St. James Place Plantation in Southport, N.C.
