Four Mercer Teams Recognized for 100% Graduation Rate
MACON, Ga. – Four Mercer sports teams (men’s tennis, women’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s cross country) have recently been recognized by the NCAA for a perfect 100% mark in the recently released graduation rate figures.
The NCAA tracks the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) data and also produces an NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figure that more accurately reflects overall student-athlete graduation by tracking and counting transfers. For the 2003 cohort measured over a six-year timeframe, Mercer had its men’s tennis (GSR and FGR), women’s golf (GSR), women’s tennis (GSR) and women’s cross country (GSR) teams post perfect 100% scores.
“This is a great achievement by these teams and is exactly what we strive for as the goal for Mercer’s athletics program,” said Jim Cole, MU Director of Athletics. “We want to send out young men and women who compete both in the classroom, as well as on the fields. I look forward to building on this report and having even more of our programs reach these levels in the future.”
In addition to those programs posting 100%, Mercer had four additional programs (men’s basketball, men’s soccer, softball and volleyball) post rates at 88% and higher, well above the record-setting national GSR average of 79%.
The Atlantic Sun conference yielded a league average GSR of more than 81%.
