Bears' 10th at Women's Golf Event
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mercer University’s women’s golf team finished in 10th place out of 14 teams at the LPGA Intl. Xavier Invitational, played at the LPGA Legends Course. The Bears amassed a team aggregate score of 939 for close team standings (where five strokes separated the Nos. 6-10 teams).
The Bears outdistanced Samford, McNeese State, North Dakota State and Jacksonville in the final team tallies. Daytona State’s 894 team score was the winning number.
Lacey Fears and Kaitlin Marrin were MU’s top placers, both tying for 33rd place in the 78-golfer field. The duo finished the 56-hole tourney with a 235 each. Fears signed for a 77 on Sunday’s final round, while teammate Marrin had a 79.
The team’s most pleasant surprise may have come from Aurelie Wiriath, who had Mercer’s best round on Sunday with a 75, after carding 81’s in each of the first two rounds. Wiriath’s 237 total was good for a 42nd place tie.
Joining Wiriath with a 237 for the tournament was Mary Alice Murphy, who also had a 77 for the final 18 holes. Alicia Poole’s 85 gave her a 243 total (56th place tie).
