NEWNAN, GA — Mercer sophomore Lacey Fears and LPGA tour player Dori Carter both carded 68's for a share of the lead in the Georgia Women's Open. The annual event is underway at the Canongate at Summer Grove Golf Club.

The 2011 edition of the tournament plays to a par 72 and plays to 6,204 yards.  This year marks the fifth time the event has been held at the Summer Grove Golf Club.

On Wednesday, Fears carded six birdies and two bogies for her four-under par round.

"I putted very well today and only had 29 putts," Fears said.  "My dad got me some new Mizuno irons and I am hitting them well. My game is in a pretty good place right now."

Three other Mercer women's golfers are competing in the event. Kimmy Graff shot a 77; Keri Lynn Carson posted an 81 and Alicia Poole finished with an 87.
