Women's Golf Ties for Sixth at A-Sun Championships

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The Mercer women's golf team posted its third-straight round of 305 at the Atlantic Sun Championships to tie Jacksonville for sixth place. Stetson captured its second-straight A-Sun title, thanks to a cumulative team score of two-under par on the final day of the event.

Stetson's impressive final round hurdled the Hatters from fifth to first on the Wednesday. Kennesaw State finished with a final total of 888 while No. 49 Campbell and ETSU tied for third place with scores of 889. FGCU (890) rounded out the top five.

"This tournament was really a milestone for our team," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "To play that consistently with the pressure of it being the conference tournament, I was really proud of our golfers."

Mercer senior Monica Kelsey fired her low-round of the year on Wednesday, notching a birdie on the first hole of the day before paring the remaining 17 holes to finish with a 71. Kelsey finished the event with a three-day total of 222 and tied for 8th place. Kelsey's placement matched her best finish this season.

"Monica was just amazing today," Guyer said. "I walked with her and thought she played great golf all day long."

Mercer freshman Aurelie Wiriath carded her best round of the event on Wednesday, contributing a 75 to the team score. Wiriath finished the event tied for 29th place individually.

"Aurelie's 75 today is really something to be excited about," Guyer said. "It shows the direction her game is going in and really gives us something to look forward to in the future."

Also tying for 29th place at the event was sophomore Alicia Poole. Poole needed 81 strokes to complete play on Wednesday and equaled Wiriath's total of 232.

Freshman Kimmy Graff finished the event in 28th place after shooting a 79 on Wednesday. Graff's 79 came in conjunction with a opening round 75 and a round two 77.

Freshman Kaitlin Marrin (249) rounded out Mercer's competitors with a 45th place finish.
