Women's Golf Signs Mary Alice Murphy

MACON, Ga. - Mercer head women's golf coach Gary Guyer has announced the signing of Mary Alice Murphy to a National Letter of Intent. Murphy comes to Mercer from Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

"We are excited for her to be a part of our program," head coach Guyer said. "Mary Alice has an outstanding junior and amateur record. She won the Tennessee State High School Championship and that says a lot since Tennessee has one of the best junior golf programs in the country. The most exciting thing about her is her upside and she will keep getting better and better."

Murphy attends Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn. and is on track to graduate with a 3.7 GPA. She is coached by Chan Reeves, who also instructs many highly ranked junior, amateur and professional players.

Murphy has won three Southeastern Junior Golf Tournaments as well as many amateur events and boasts a low round of 69 in competition.

When Murphy is not playing golf she enjoys running. In 2009, Murphy completed the Country Music Half-Marathon.
