Henderson Joins Women’s Hoops Staff
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women’s basketball head coach Susie Gardner rounded out her staff for the 2011-12 season on Tuesday, announcing the addition of Marisah Henderson as an assistant coach.
“We’re very excited to add Marisah to our coaching staff,” Gardner said. “As a former college point guard she has great experience and will play a crucial role in helping develop our young guards.”
Henderson, a 2010 graduate of Wichita State University, played two seasons for the Shockers of the Missouri Valley Conference. In her first year with the team, Henderson established herself as one of the premier floor leaders in the country, finishing the 2008-09 season ranked seventh in the nation averaging 6.6 assists per game.
A year later, Henderson led the Shockers to an 18-14 (8-10 MVC) record before the team was ousted in the semifinal round of the conference tournament. In her two seasons with the team, Henderson dished out 236 assists, tying her for 16th most helpers in program history.
Prior to her time at Wichita State, Henderson spent her freshman and sophomore seasons at Birmingham-Southern College and Arkansas-Fort Smith, respectively.
During the 2007-08 season, Henderson was an intricate part of the UA-Fort Smith squad that achieved a Bi-State Conference and Region II Championship. That season, she collected All-Conference second-team honors en route to the team’s third place finish at the 2009 NJCAA Women’s Basketball national Tournament.
At Birmingham-Southern, Henderson was a four-time Big South Conference Freshman of the Week and was also selected to the league’s All-Freshman Team.
Henderson’s appointment at Mercer marks her first coaching position in NCAA athletics.
