Women's Basketball in Action at Stetson Saturday

Game Notes

DELAND, Fla. – The Mercer women's basketball team renews the oldest rivalry in the Atlantic Sun conference on Saturday as it travels to face Stetson at the Edmunds Center.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

 

COVERAGE

Saturday's game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1670 with play-by-play provided by the "Voice of the Bears", Rick Cameron.  Click the "audio" link above to access an internet feed of the broadcast.  Video web streaming of the game will also be available via A-Sun TV.

 
 

LAST TIME OUT

 

Junior Alex Phillips and freshman Precious Bridges each scored 12 points as the Bears fell to FGCU, 94-55 at Alico Arena on Thursday night.

 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

 

Stetson aims to take its second-straight win on Saturday after topping Kennesaw State 73-68 on Thursday night.  The Hatters are currently 17-5 (8-2 A-Sun) and hold a 9-1 record at home this season.

 

Stetson was picked to finish second among A-Sun competition in a preseason poll of the league's coaches. Junior guard Victoria McGowan was selected as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year in the same poll. She currently leads the A-Sun in scoring (16.6 ppg), assists (4.8 apg) and steals (3.0 spg).

 

When Mercer and Stetson met earlier this season on January 4, 2012, McGowan booked a triple double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

 

Stetson leads the all-time series between the teams, 32-28.

GAME NOTES

 

In each of the last three meetings with Stetson, the Hatters have edged the Bears by nine points or less.  Last year, the Hatters claimed an eight point (68-59) victory in Macon and a nine point victory (71-62) in DeLand.  This year, the Hatters bested Mercer by five in Macon on January 4.

 

Mercer scored 84 points against Stetson on January 4, marking the first time the team has topped the 80-point barrier in a regulation game since December 5, 2009.  On that date, Mercer downed Belmont 98-69 at the University Center.
