Women’s Basketball Concludes Homestand with UNF

Game Notes

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's basketball team wraps up a three-game homestand on Saturday, welcoming North Florida to the University Center for a 2 p.m. tip.

 

COVERAGE

Saturday's game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1670 with play-by-play provided by the "Voice of the Bears", Rick Cameron.  Click the "audio" link above to access an internet feed of the broadcast.  Video web streaming of the game will also be available via ESPN3.

 

LAST TIME OUT

Sharmesia Smith had her second career double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds as Mercer fell to Jacksonville, 76-65 on Thursday night at the University Center.

 

SCOUTING THE OSPREYS

 

North Florida comes to Macon fresh off a 66-57 victory at Kennesaw State on Thursday night.  The Ospreys hold a 7-12 (4-4 A-Sun) record and are 1-9 on the road this season.

 

UNF was picked to finish fifth among A-Sun teams in a preseason poll of the league's coaches.  Senior guard Brittany Kirkland was named a Preseason All-Conference selection after averaging 13.9 points per game last season.

 

Entering Saturday's game, Kirkland leads A-Sun active players in career points (1,423).  This year, she paces the Ospreys at 12.4 points per game.

 

North Florida owns the all-time series, 8-5.  The Ospreys are 3-1 in the last four games against Mercer.

 

GAME NOTES

 

Sharmesia Smith's double-double on Thursday night against Jacksonville was Mercer's second double-double of the year.  Smith had 15 rebounds, two short of a Mercer University Center record.  She added her name to a list of 21 A-Sun players who have double-doubles this season.

 

Mercer is one of four A-Sun teams with an average home attendance of more than 1,250.  In 10 home games this season, the Bears have welcomed 12,037 fans.
