Bears Head North to Clash with Camels

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women’s basketball team resumes its Atlantic Sun schedule on Monday, heading to Buies Creek, N.C. in search of win versus the streaking Campbell Camels.  Game time is slated for 11:45 a.m.

Mercer aims to snap a seven-game slide on Monday morning after most recently being edged by USC Upstate, 70-64 on January 5 at the University Center.  Despite holding leads during the second half in four of its last five games, Mercer has been unable to translate those leads into victories.

SCOUTING THE CAMELS

Campbell welcomes Mercer to Buies Creek on Monday in the midst of a three-game winning streak.  The Camels are 4-10 (3-2 A-Sun) on the year and have captured conference victories in each of their last three games.

The Camels return four starters from last year’s team that finished 14-16 (9-11 A-Sun).  Campbell tied Belmont for the fifth spot in the A-Sun Preseason coaches’ poll and sophomore guard Tonisha Baker was named a preseason All-Conference selection.

Baker leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per contest her classmate, Jazmine Cooper, tops the squad in rebounding (6.2 rpg).

GAME NOTES

In Mercer’s last game, freshman Brittnee Hazel recorded the Bears’ first double-double effort of the season.  Hazel netted 13 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds.

Kourtney Carter scored four points in Mercer’s last outing, moving her career total to 300 points.  Carter also passed the 200 rebound mark this season and now has 212 rebounds in her four-year career.

Campbell leads the all-time series with Mercer, 24-12 and has captured victories in seven of the teams’ last nine meetings.  Last season, the teams split two regular season matchups, each squad winning at its home site.
