Bears Fall at No. 25 Georgia, 92-45
ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore Kendra Grant scored a career-high 14 points as the Mercer women's basketball team fell to No. 25 Georgia, 92-45, on Tuesday evening at Stegeman Coliseum.
Mercer dropped to 1-7 on the season while Georgia moved to 7-2 with the win.
"We are looking for players that can through fatigue and continue high energy play no matter what the score is," Mercer head coach Susie Gardner. "We saw that from a few players tonight."
Facing a significant height disadvantage, Mercer Gardner relied on her players to play a scrappy, aggressive defense against the Bulldogs. The result saw Mercer force the hosts into 17 turnovers and convert those giveaways into 12 points.
All told, eight Mercer players notched a steal in the game.
Grant's 14 points came on the strength of three-of-seven shooting from beyond the arc. Grant was one of three Mercer players who played more than 30 minutes against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Sharmesia Smith collected a team-high seven rebounds while also contributing six points, two blocks and a steal. Freshman Brittnee Hazel battled her way to four points and four rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
Georgia had five players score in double digits en route to their seventh win of the season.
Mercer freshman Briana Williams tallied 10 points in the loss while grabbing two rebounds.
Mercer now endures a 12-day hiatus before returning to action with a home contest against Charleston Southern on Dec. 20. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
