Williams Nets Player of the Week Honor
MACON, Ga. – After leading the Mercer to a split of its first two conference games, freshman Briana Williams has been named the Atlantic Sun women’s basketball Player of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office Tuesday.
Williams torched Belmont for 32 points on Dec. 2, helping the Bears capture their first win at the Curb Event Center in program history. Against the Bruins, Williams was five-of-eight from three point range while also notching an assist and a steal.
William’s 32 point effort marked the highest scoring output for an Atlantic Sun player this season.
Two days later, Williams scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in Mercer’s 67-57 loss at Lipscomb.
Williams now ranks third among all Division I freshmen and second among A-Sun players in scoring average (18.4 ppg).
Williams and the Bears return to action at Georgia on Tuesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
