Williams Tabbed Newcomer of the Week

MACON, Ga. – After leading the Bears in scoring in two non-conference games, Mercer freshman Briana Williams has been named the Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week in an announcement made by the conference office Tuesday.

“This is a well deserved recognition for Briana,” Mercer head coach Susie Gardner said.  “I hope this will lead to a continued high level of play and help her continue progressing at the Division I level.”

Williams netted 18 points and grabbed four rebounds in Mercer’s loss to Georgia Southern on Nov. 16 before scoring 10 points and handing out four assists against Furman on Nov. 19.

Williams currently ranks third in the league in scoring average (17.0 ppg) and is the top scoring freshman in the conference.

Williams and the Bears return to action at the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 27-28.  Mercer is slated to face Rice in the opening game of the event on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m.
