Stukes and Marko Named to All-Tournament Team
MACON, Ga. – A pair of Mercer softball juniors were named to the 2011 Phyllis Rafter Memorial All-Tournament Team on Monday after putting up big numbers in the three-day tournament his past weekend.
Shortstop Sara Stukes and catcher Kristin Marko both had a tremendous weekend at the plate, helping the Bears to a 3-2 overall record in the tournament.
Both players started all five games of the tournament and had an impact on the Bears overall outcome. Stukes led all players in the tournament in a number of offensive statistics and Marko had a hit in all five of the games played.
Stukes had an incredible tournament and was among the top in six statistical categories. Overall, she was fourth in batting average (.563), first in total bases (19), fourth in slugging percentage (1.188), tied for second in hits (9), tied for first in triples (1), and tied for first in RBI (10). She twice went 3-for-3 at the plate and had two doubles and her first triple of the season in the tournament.
Marko recorded a .385 batting average over the weekend and added five RBI on five hits. She is now second on the team with 16 RBI on the year. Against Tennessee St., Marko went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a walk.
