Bears Repeat as RunFit Sports Invitational Champs

MACON, Ga. – Mercer University’s men’s cross country team held off the field to repeat as team champions of its own 10th annual RunFit Sports Invitational on Saturday at the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home course.  The Bears had four runners in the top ten of the field of 128 competitors, with all five of its scoring team members in the top 13 overall.

 

MU had a narrow 35-38 margin over runner-up Savannah College of Art and Design, with the rest of the 15-team field well back of the top two teams

 

For the second-consecutive meet, sophomore Sony Prosper (Pompano Beach, Fla.) was his team’s top place winner. Prosper completed the 8K course in a time of 25:36.22 (seven seconds behind race winner Ignaci Fernandez from SCAD).

 

Mercer junior Chris Svidesskis (Marietta, Ga.) – last year’s individual champion – was third overall in a time of 25:54.35. Teammates Jacob Law (Crestwood, Ky.), a junior, and Marc Kushinka (Bonaire, Ga.), a senior, finished just three-tenths of a second apart in eighth (26:15.03) and ninth (26:15.33), respectively.

 

Junior Andrew Weems (Johnson City, Tenn.) topped off the Bears’ scoring by crossing the line at 26:46.11, good for 13th-place in the point totals.
