Mercer Stumbles At Home Against Florida A&M
MACON, GA—The Mercer men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Florida A&M in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 2-3 on the campaign.
The Bears picked up their only two points of the afternoon, claiming victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 flights in singles play, respectively. At the No. 5 position, Vincent DeLise improved his individual record to 5-2 on the campaign, besting Temuera Asau-Adjaye by scores of 7-5, 6-3. At No. 6, Victor Dias defeat Fabrice Myrtil in decisive fashion, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win to claim the point for the Bears.
"Vincent DeLise had a great day, winning both doubles and singles," head coach Warren Woolfolk said. "He has been a major contributor to the team this season, with a singles record of 4-2 and a doubles record of 4-2. He has been one of the hardest workers on the team and it is definitely showing in his results."
Florida A&M was able to claim the doubles point, taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Bears were afforded some consolation, as DeLise teamed with Joao Pagan to pick up an 8-6 victory.
In singles action, the Bears dropped points at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions. The Bears return to the court on Thursday, Mar. 1, hosting Fort Valley State in a match slated for 3 p.m.
