Men's Tennis Slips Versus USC Upstate, 5-2
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s tennis team was defeated by USC Upstate, 5-2, in a key Atlantic Sun Conference match played at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center.
The Bears fell to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the A-Sun.
MU lost the doubles team points, as the Spartans won two of the three matches. Mercer’s lone tandem win came from the No. 3 team of Fernando Armendaris and Guilherme Frias, who scored a hard-fought 8-7 (7-4) win over Marco Linconir and Gianluca Paino.
The Bears’ two team points came from Evandro Rosindo at the No. 4 position and David Barton at No. 6. Rosindo topped Upstate’s Gonzalo Blanco in three sets, 7-5, 4-6 and 10-7 in the third-set super-tiebreaker.
At the sixth slot, Barton dispatched of Paino in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
MU’s Saturday (March 26) match versus Campbell had the start time moved ahead to 10 a.m. at the Peddy Tennis Center due to the threat of inclement weather late in the day.
