Men's Tennis Set for Big Weekend at Home
MACON, Ga. - Mercer’s tennis teams will be looking forward to
a pair of crucial contests in Atlantic Sun Conference tennis
matches this weekend at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center on the MU
campus.
The Bears’ men’s squad (7-8, 4-2 A-Sun) – currently in fifth place in a battle to be among the six teams which qualify for the A-Sun Tournament (April 15-17 in DeLand, Fla.) – will have the opportunity to both climb the charts and/or give itself some breathing room. On Friday (March 25, 2 p.m.), Mercer welcomes USC Upstate (7-11, 3-2 A-Sun), which is not eligible for post-season play in 2011 (due to reclassification), but is just percentage points behind the Bears in the regular season standings and should provide a tough test for the Bears.
On Saturday (March 26, 2 p.m.), MU will set its sights on the A-Sun’s third place team, Campbell University, on the Bears’ home courts. The Camels’ (11-2, 3-1 A-Sun) lone conference loss was to Stetson (by a 4-3 score). Mercer defeated Stetson, 5-2, two weeks ago.
The MU women will be looking to snap a nine-match losing skein and looking to garner their first A-Sun win this weekend. The Bears’ women’s team faces Upstate on Friday (10 a.m.) and Campbell on Saturday (10 a.m.). Like Mercer, Upstate is also searching for its first A-Sun women’s tennis win, while the Lady Camels sit in third place in the league.
