Bears Win Third-Straight A-Sun Match

 

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team won its second match in a row and third-straight Atlantic Sun Conference contest with its 7-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday. The win improved the Bears' record to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the A-Sun.

 

MU earned the team doubles point by winning two of three tandem competitions. At No. 2 doubles, Pierre Tafelski and David Barton were 8-2 winners over the Eagles' Steve Binninger and Mitchell Lvovsky. The No. 3 MU doubles team of Fernando Armendaris and Guilherme Frias remained unbeaten, improving to 7-0 with their 8-0 win over Collin Brown and Matthew Rock.

 

At singles play, the Bears won all of the matches in straight sets, led by Tafelski's 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position over FGCU's Rock. At No. 2, Peter Tauchner won a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Binninger, while Armendaris won at No. 3.

 

Evandro Rosindo and Frias won at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Barton won by default at the No. 6 slot.
