Men's Tennis Defeated by USCU, 5-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team got a slow start out of the gate in Atlantic Sun Conference play, losing its league-opening match, 5-2, at USC Upstate. The loss dropped the Bears to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the A-Sun, while the Spartans evened their overall mark at 4-4 and are 2-0 in league.

The loss dropped the Bears to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the A-Sun, while the Spartans evened their overall mark at 4-4 and are 2-0 in league.
USCU swept all three doubles matches to earn the first team
point of the day in that category. The Spartans are the 70th ranked
team in the nation.
Mercers two wins came from the two players on the squad with
unblemished singles records – Fernando Armendaris
and Adam Hunt – who each improved to 6-0 on
the year versus Upstate.
Armendaris won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4 versus Renzo Airaldi
at the No. 2 position. Hunt cut down the Spartans' Gary
Goudsmet by a 6-3, 6-4 tally.
At No. 1 singles, #Evandro Rosario lost 6-3, 6-2 for the
Bears. At No. 3, Peter Tauchner was toppled 6-1, 6-1,
which was followed by losses from Matthew Poleon at No.
4 (6-0, 6-1) and David Barton at No. 5 (6-3, 6-4).
