Petricek Captures A-Sun Player of the Week Honor
MACON, Ga. – Mercer men’s soccer sophomore goalkeeper Brett Petricek took home the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week award as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The weekly award is the first won by any Mercer player this season and the second of Petricek’s career.
The Woodridge, Ill. played a huge role in the Bears winning the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational this past weekend in High Point, N.C. The Orange and Black went 1-0-1 in the event and beat out host school High Point for the championship trophy thanks to a 3-1 goal differential.
Petricek earned his second shutout of the season, tops in the A-Sun, by making two saves in a 3-0 victory over Radford on September 10. He started Mercer’s match against High Point on September 12, making three saves before leaving the contest with an injury.
For the season, Petricek has a 2-0-0 record, a .833 save percentage and has allowed just two goals in over 253 minutes of game time for a 0.71 goals against average.
Mercer hosts in-state rival Georgia State in its 2010 regular season home opener on Sunday, September 19. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Bear Field.
