Petricek Captures A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week Honor

MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Brett Petricek took home the last Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor of the regular season as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.

The weekly award is the third of Petricek's career and second this season.

The Woodridge, Ill. played a huge role in the Bears going 2-0 this past weekend against A-Sun rivals Lipscomb and Belmont. The undefeated weekend helped Mercer clinch the No. 3 seed in this week's A-Sun Men's Soccer Championship.

Petricek earned his sixth shutout of the season, tied for second-best in the A-Sun, by making six saves in a 2-0 victory over Lipscomb on October 28. His six shutouts in 2010 are tied for the eighth most in a single-season in A-Sun Conference history.

Petricek also started in net against Belmont and earned his ninth win of the season, making one save in the 2-1 victory over the Bruins.

For the season, Petricek has a 9-4-0 record, a .769 save percentage and has allowed just 15 goals in over 1,252 minutes of game time, equating to a 1.08 goals against average.

Petricek and the Bears prepare to host its first A-Sun Championship game since 2005 when it welcomes Jacksonville into town for a first round match-up. Game time at Bear Field is set for Saturday, November, 6 at 7:00 p.m.
