Mens Lacrosse Falls at Home to Air Force, 15-9
MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior attackman Zack Ward netted four goals on six shots as the men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-9 decision to Air Force at the Moye Lacrosse Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons' second-straight win pushed the team to 6-5 on the year while Mercer dropped its fifth-straight and fell to 3-7.
Ward's registered Mercer's first goal of the afternoon at the 8:17 juncture of the second quarter after Air Force had netted the game's first four goals. He added another score less than two minutes later, and freshman Chris Baxa found the net with 2:20 to go before halftime to cut the Bears' deficit to two (5-3).
After Baxa's goal, Air Force posted five of the game's next six goals to take a 10-4 lead with 5:47 to play in the third stanza. From there, the teams would play to an even 5-5 mark before the game's final whistle.
Ward finished the afternoon with five points (4g, 1a) while Baxa (2g) and junior Cole Branch (1g, 1a) joined him with multiple points. The Falcons had five different players with multiple points, led by Mike Cramptons' game high 11 (3g, 8a).
Mercer's freshman goalie Mike Nugent posted 16 saves in the losing effort while his counterpart, Austin Fox, made 11 stops to notch the win.
The Bears return to action in their final road game of the regular season at VMI on April 14. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
