MU Lacrosse Introduces 2012 Recruiting Class
MACON, Ga. - Mercer University men’s lacrosse head coach
Jason Childs has introduced his recruiting class for the second
year of the sport on the MU campus in 2012. In all, Childs will
have 20 new faces join his 24 returning players from last
year’s inaugural season of the sport for the Bears.
“We are very excited about where we are with the new class,” Childs said. “I think this class is very strong and the addition of the transfers will only make us more mature and grow faster as a unit.
“When putting this recruiting class together, we wanted to be stronger at every position on the field and we certainly accomplished our goal. We actually feel we overachieved in many instances. So, we are very excited with the young men we now have as a part of the Mercer lacrosse family.”
The Bears team will still have a youthful air about the roster with 40 freshmen and sophomores, two juniors and one senior newcomer. However, many of the returning sophomores – as well as transfers – have had an ample amount of playing time. It’s that aspect that has Childs’ most excited about the 2012 campaign.
“We return a lot of points and a ton of saves,” Childs recounted. “I think that is a great recipe for the success of this year’s team. We knew we would return a lot, but in our evaluation we return everything and that is unique to this program. We are very excited about what these returners did over the summer and how it translates on the field.”
The Bears open their fall practice this coming Sunday (Sept. 11) at 10 a.m.
