Men’s Golf Adds Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr.

MACON, Ga. –  Mercer men’s golf coach Steve Bradley announced the newest addition to his team Friday, accepting a National Letter of Intent from Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr.  Heinicka is a native of Pinellas Park, Florida and joins Mercer after a stellar high school career at Northside Christian High School.

Over the past 18 months, Heinicka has competed in 25 events and placed among the top-20 individuals 16 times.  Over that stretch, he has fired rounds of 72 or better on 11 occasions.

Top-10 placements in the last 18 months include a first place finish in the AJGA Qualifier Series held at the General at Barnsley Garden, an eighth place finish at the FSGA Florida Amateur Qualifier, an eighth place finish at the FCWT held at Feather Sound country, a second-place finish at the AJGA Innisbrook Qualifier, a sixth place finish in the Hurricane Junior Tour Tampa Bay Junior Open, a third place finish at the Bay Conference Tournament at Brooker Creek Country Club, a second place finish at the Ryan Wells Memorial Jr. Classic and a second-place finish at the Calvary Christian Invitational.

At the Calvary Christian Invitational, Heinicka fired a 67 en route to his second-place finish.

Among his strengths, Heinicka indentifies his distance, chipping and ability to scramble.  He asserts he honed these talents while living on a golf course and spending most nights chipping and putting until dark.

A well-rounded athlete, Heinicka also earned four varsity letters in soccer and three varsity letters in baseball.

Heinicka will join a young Mercer team set to feature three seniors, two juniors and three sophomores in the 2012-13 academic year.
